The BPP Library Team are proud to support Earth Day 2025. Earth Day is held annually on 22nd April, and is a valuable opportunity to promote the importance of environmental stewardship and protection. Since its creation in 1970, Earth Day has become a global event—the world’s largest annual civic event— that advocates for sustainability, environmental conservation and a wider awareness of the negative effects of climate changeThe theme for Earth Day 2025 is ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. BPP Library’s support of Earth Day is just one of the many ways in which we demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, and an important feature in our ‘BPP Library Green Learning’ project.

Some of BPP’s green initiatives already in place include:

  • Forming a Sustainability Champions staff network
  • Digital technologies and online teaching
  • Paperless programmes
  • Discouraging single-use plastic
  • Improving energy efficiency in our buildings through building management systems
  • Investment in energy efficiency programmes
  • Improving recycling provision
  • Driving visibility of climate change and empowering the next generation of professionals through our programmes, course content and the work of BPP Social Impact (Source: ‘BPP Library Goes Green’ Newsletter: Spring 2023)

New sustainability initiatives in place since our Earth Day 2024 celebration:

  • BPP Education Group donated retired IT equipment to the Turing Trust, resulting in the offset of 42 tonnes of CO2: the equivalent of planting 42 trees.
  • Eco-friendly ‘BPP Library’ branded pens have been distributed for free to students.
  • The BPP Library Green Learning reading list has been updated with further online resources.
  • The BPP Students Association have teamed up with Black Girls Hike for a special hike that provides an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of nature (please contact the Students Association or see the posters in our Earth Day 2025 display for more info).
  • BPP have rolled out a new programme to install food waste caddies at every BPP centre, to reduce food waste and environmental impact.

How BPP Library are supporting Earth Day 2025:

  • Sharing the updated ‘BPP Library Green Learning’ reading list—an online reading list dedicated to the works on climate change, environmental issues, and eco-friendly living available for BPP students to borrow, as standard loans, through our Great Reads collections.
  • Encouraging students to browse these works and learn more about Earth Day through the BPP London Central (Holborn) Library Earth Day display, available to browse on the Ground Floor.
