BPP Library is proud to support LGBTQ+ History Month 2025 with the return of our annual Library campaign, Learn Proud Live Proud.
What is LGBTQ+ History Month?
- LGBTQ+ History Month takes place throughout February each year. It is a month long celebration of the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community throughout the decades, a celebration of LGBTQ+ history and legal and cultural milestones.
- Although LGBTQ+ people have made-and continue to make- significant and valuable contributions to all sectors of all society, LGBTQ+ History Month is important as many LGBTQ+ all over the world still face injustices, homophobic and transphobic violence, discrimination, and persecution because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. LGBTQ+ History Month is a welcoming, accepting, and inclusive time for LGBTQ+ people to express themselves and an opportunity to find community and support.
What is the BPP Library Learn Proud Live Proud campaign?
As a Stonewall Diversity Champion, BPP is committed to upholding strong values of equality, diversity, and inclusivity. The BPP Library Learn Proud Live Proud campaign is based around these values. Itaims to promote LGBTQ+ History Month 2025, and to ensure students of all sexual orientations and gender identities feel seen, supported, and valued. To help achieve this, we are offering students a range of informative, engaging, and fun online initiatives and resources throughout February as part of the Learn Proud Live Proud 2025 campaign, such as:
LGBTQ+ Heroes: The Exhibition
- Now in its sixth year, ‘LGBTQ+ Heroes’ is back! The exhibition showcases inspirational LGBTQ+ heroes as chosen by our Library Team, available to browse on our BPP Library Instagram and Twitter feeds (@bpplibrary) and updated throughout LGBTQ+ History Month.
- Students and staff can also contribute their own LGBTQ+ heroes to the exhibition and our social media by filling out one of our nomination slips (available at the display and at the Library Issue Desk on the Ground Floor), and handing them in to a member of the Library Team.
The BPP Holborn Library Rainbow Reading Area
The BPP (London Central) Holborn Library has been decorated to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month, with fun rainbow bunting, a rainbow wall flag, and a brand new display, featuring a specially selected range of LGBTQ+ books from our ‘Great Reads’ collection featuring books by LGBTQ+ authors and with strong LGBTQ+ representation, and a cosy and welcoming Rainbow Reading area for students to use while they browse our display. All works featured in our display are included in our online Read with Pride 365 reading list. Available to browse from the 5th February- January-28th February 2025.
