Study Support: Reading 4 Pleasure

Reading 4 Pleasure

Why is reading important, and how can it help maintain good mental health?

According to a study conducted by The Reading Agency, reading can increase awareness about mental wellbeing and, at the same time, help fighting mental issues. Moreover, pleasure reading can:

  • Improve relaxation
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve communication skills
  • Boost concentration
  • Increase knowledge of other cultures
  • Reduce depression and dementia symptoms

To help you taking care of your mental wellbeing, BPP Library has developed the ‘Great Reads’ project and the BookCrossing projectThese are designed to complement our already vast collection of books with non-academic titles, which include children’s books, fiction, and memoirs. As we want to encourage our students to further boost their knowledge and look after their mental health, we also suggest that you take advantage of your local public library and its services.

To find out more about the Library’s projects, and discover what your local public library can offer, please see the information below.

BookCrossing Project

What is BookCrossing?

BookCrossing is a project that aims to connect people through books by creating a space where you can donate and swap your pre-loved titles.

Where?

You can find a BookCrossing zone at the Manchester campus, in the Library on the second floor.

How?

Browse the books in the BookCrossing zone; if you wish to take a book out, go to bookcrossing.com and enter the unique BCID number found on the inside front cover. Make sure to tell the BookCrossing community where you have found the book, and, once you have read it, release it in the wild for other people to find!

We accept donations! If you are based at the Manchester campus and you have any fiction books that you would like to donate, please speak to a member of the Manchester Library team.
