Lexis+ Certification

It is important to ensure you know the basics of how to use Lexis+ (formerly LexisLibrary) as this will help you in your studies and may also prepare you for any work experience or employment at a later date.  Certificates could be added to your CV and may help build your employability skills. You can access the foundation and advanced certification tests here.

In order to increase your chances of completing a certificate successfully, it is strongly recommended that you attend a relevant training session on Lexis+ prior to doing so, or view preparatory tutorials - available from the certification link above.  You will also find helpful guides and tutorials including video tips here.

Sources of Training

  • Programme specific training: pre-recorded training tailored to specific programmes may be found on your Hub in the relevant module
  • Student Associate Training: sessions offered by Westlaw, Lexis+ and Practical Law Student Associates (where available) will be advertised locally (they may have regular drop ins) and via BPP Futures or BPP Virtual Campus. We do not always have Student Associates.
  • Ask a Law Librarian:  this is a regular weekly drop in (via online classroom - check BPP Futures for details).  If you miss a training session or just have a quick query about how to find a journal article, where to find a book, how to reference using OSCOLA - drop in and ask us!
  • Online Providers: most online resource providers offer tutorials online (within their product) or via their own websites. Links to these can be found on the Online Resources page. The library team or online providers may provide additional training too which we will advertise.

Student Associates

  • We sometimes have student associates recruited directly by LexisNexis (Lexis+) and Thomson Reuters (Practical Law and Westlaw UK).  Available during term time to promote their resources, they will also offer training and drop ins to demonstrate functionality and content.
  • Student associate jobs are advertised via BPP Futures or in libraries as they become available and provide an excellent platform for becoming competent in the effective use of these resources – a useful skill in the legal profession.  If there is no Student Associate at your campus location the library can still offer training to you online.
