Online Library: Current Awareness

Welcome

  • Some aspects of current awareness overlap with commercial awareness.  The Careers Team and Law School may offer training on commercial awareness, and the Library will have resources that are useful too.
  • Look out for any tailored Library sessions on commercial acumen, researching a business or client, and view the useful links in the Business School’s guide.
  • Legal journals and newsletters – some are published weekly, some monthly and some quarterly.
  • Online Resources: view current information on topical subjects, or create an Alert in any special area of interest
  • Social Media: many legal publishers, organisations, law firms, chambers and individual lawyers will provide blogs, twitter feeds or news feeds or newsletters

Key Online Resources

Most resources have a current awareness section or legal updates.  Some of them will permit you to create an Alert to receive ongoing updates.  This doesn’t work for all resources.

At any point of a search (for key cases, journals, legislation etc.) you can set up an Alert to track for any new items added to that area and have results delivered by email.  Separately search material in the Current Awareness section for topical information, or to create an Alert.  News is also available on LexisLibrary.  Search for a subject or business etc. and create an Alert to track it for new items.

Search the Current Awareness section or create an Alert.  Search the last 90 days or archive.  View by most recently added, by subject or document type.  Via the Insight section view latest updates and tweets.

View PLC Magazine and the legal updates with each topic area under Resources.  Although you can email materials you view to yourself, it isn’t currently possibly to set up automatic email alerts with a student subscription.
